About the artist

Benoni Chatla

A California-based visual artist working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, whose practice sits at the intersection of fine art, health informatics, and neuroaesthetics.

Combining a background in data systems and human-centered technology with expressive painting, Chatla translates internal psychological states, memory, and mental health landscapes into immersive visual geographies.

Familiar vistas, winding autumn paths, natural forms, and architectural thresholds become passages of transition, reflection, and sanctuary. Through layered acrylics, tactile mixed media, and deliberate spatial relationships, she explores how color, texture, and structure shape emotion, perception, and empathy.

My practice explores the dynamic intersection of mind, environment, and internal architecture, transforming intangible psychological states and spatial environments into tangible visual forms. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, I approach the canvas as both an expressive landscape and a structural interface — a space where the precision of data and systems meets the fluid complexity of human emotion, memory, and mental well-being.

Rooted in a background in Health Informatics and informed by neuroaesthetics, I view data, algorithms, and spatial pathways as modern geographies of the mind. My work moves continuously between representation and abstraction, blending recognizable elements such as winding forest paths, architectural thresholds, and symbolic passages with fluid color fields. Each painting maps the delicate threshold between noise and clarity, movement and stillness, disorientation and sanctuary.

Acrylic allows for immediate, intuitive gesture, while integrated mixed-media elements introduce physical depth and material weight. Each piece evolves as an active space where color, texture, and form hold traces of both spontaneous emotion and deliberate intention.

Ultimately, my art seeks to humanize the systems through which we perceive health, mind, and space — creating reflective sanctuaries that invite viewers to look beyond the surface of a landscape, navigate their own internal terrains, and find a deeper connection to self-discovery and well-being.
